Olive Flower Essences
The Olive has been cultivated for at least 40 centuries for its edible fruit and valuable oil. Australia grows only one native species. The Bible contains many references to the Olive. In the Book of Exodus, Moses was guided to make an anointing oil of spices and olive oil. The kings and priests had anointing oil poured over their heads during consecration. The Roman Catholic Church still uses Olive oil at baptisms and death rites. There is almost no part of the olive tree that is not useful. The Romans valued the wood as burnt offerings for the gods. Craftsmen carved works of art on Olive wood. The residue of the stones and skins after pressing make good fuel and fertiliser. The Olive’s abundant small, yellowish-white flowers open in late spring.
